High School Transcripts
What is a high school transcript?
The high school transcript is the academic record of a student’s high school career. It shows the courses taken, grades, credits, and grade point average (GPA). Students will need their transcript for college and scholarship applications, internships, military, and some jobs. A transcript is also needed when transferring to public or private school if the student has high school transfer credits.
Homeschool Transcript
South Carolina families can create their own high school transcripts. The guidelines for creating your own transcript are in the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy. Find out more in the Create your own Transcript option above. Check out the Instructions & Tips tab. You can also download a transcript template and general instructions.
GLOW Accountability provides an optional Official GLOW Transcript. Parents submit their transcript information and work with GLOW to create the transcript. GLOW Transcripts are signed by the GLOW Accountability Director and by the homeschool parent, aka Homeschool Administrator.
Grade Point Average – GPA
South Carolina schools use a weighted GPA on a 10-point scale. GLOW official transcripts show both the weighted and unweighted GPA. There are 2 main differences between an unweighted grade and an weighted grading system.
- Letter grades vs Numeric grades – In the unweighted system there is one value per grade. A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1. The weighted system considers the numeric grade. 93% and 99% are both A’s but the 99% adds more value to the GPA. On the 10-point grading scale, 89% is a B and 90% is an A. On the unweighted scale 89% is worth 3 points and 90% is worth 4. On the weighted scale 89% is 3.9 and 89% is 4.0
- Course Difficulty – Weighted GPA considers course difficulty level, while an unweighted GPA treats all courses equally, regardless of their difficulty. The weighted system gives more points for higher level classes. Unweighted, a grade of 100% would be 4.0 points. Weighted course points for 100% are: College Prep (CP) 5.0, Honors (H) 5.5, Advanced Placement (AP) 6.0, Dual Credit (D) 6.0.
Credits / Units
Credits are used to show if a course contains 1 semester or a full year of content. Typically a course containing a full year of content is 1.0 credits and a course with 1 semester of content is 0.5 credits.
