Grading Scales

Homeschoolers in South Carolina are free to use any grading scale. You can use one of these common grading scales, or you can make up your own. Make sure you clearly show the grading scale on your progress report.

Traditional Lower Elementary Scale:

E = Excellent, S = Satisfactory, N = Needs Improvement.

Pass/Fail

P = Pass, F=Fail

Traditional Grades:

A, B, C, D, F

Percentage Grades:

A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 70-79, D = 60-69, F = 0-59

Proficiency Grading Scale

Scale	Level of Mastery	Grade Level	Kid Terms
4	Advanced	Above	I did more than was expected of me
3	Proficient	At grade level	I did what was expected
2	Basic	Approaching	I didn’t do much of what was expected
1	Below Basic	Below	I didn’t even try
